Sgt. Major Beth Ellen Abbott accused of DUI after hitting teens w/ vehicle
At about 11:30 on May 31, the general manager of the Aquia Harbour Property Owners Association announced two minors were hit by a vehicle and were being medically treated.
Both Aquia Harbour PD and Stafford County are currently investigating the incident, her message added.
At about 3 p.m. on June 1, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the two minors who were hit the night before were 14 years old. Both were airlifted to a hospital as they were suffering from “serious injuries.”
However, both victims are expected to make a full recovery, SCSO also noted.
The teenagers, according to police, were hit by a 39-year-old Stafford woman who remained at the scene. She “had glassy, bloodshot eyes, the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving.”
Aquia Harbor Police charged the driver, Beth Ellen Abbott, with DWI, 1st offense, a Class 1 misdemeanor. She was also charged with refusal to take a blood/breath test, which is a civil violation.
She was later released on a $1,000 bond.
