Gloucester, VA man backs out of 2-charge plea deal, gets 35 years for 11 charges

Instead of Nathaniel DeAlbert Mattocks of Hayes sticking to his plea deal for two felonies, he chose a legal tennis match with the Feds, had a jury trial, and three lawyers later ended up convicted of 11 charges, related to gun violations, drugs and witness tampering.

Mattocks who, according to the Feds, went by several aliases, including Dee and D-Block, is now facing a 35-year sentence.

Road rage?

It all began to unravel for the now 39-year-old on August 5, 2020 when Gloucester police got a 911 call about a driver with a gun.

Jeffrey Moore called 911 and reported that a black male driving a grey car with a white passenger was following and shooting at him. Gloucester police responded and eventually stopped a grey Ford Focus.

By this time, the white person — identified in federal documents as Rachel Coppola — was driving and Mattocks was on the passenger side. They were both detained.

Coppola, who became a federal witness, explained they were at the gas station when Mattocks saw Moore driving past. Mattocks claimed Moore robbed him and he wanted to catch up with him.

Coppola claimed when she refused to follow Moore, Mattocks shoved her into the car…
